Life is a succession of choices.
The toothpaste you use every morning is a choice. The route you take to go home every day is a choice. Your best friend is a choice. Your job is a choice. The book you read is a choice. Voting is a choice. Decorating your home is a choice. Eating too much is a choice. Speaking your mind up is a choice. Not practicing any sport is a choice. Working overtime is a choice. Not smoking is a choice. Feeling sorry for yourself is a choice. Smiling is a choice.
These are all choices, but they are not all the same. Some of them are more obvious than others, some of them appear more often than others and, perhaps most importantly, some of them we consider more consciously than others.
One choice we rarely consider, is the choice of who we are. Jill Bolte Taylor talks about this particular choice at TED. She takes us through her amazing experience and she vividly reminds us that:
We have the power to choose, moment by moment, who and how we want to be in the world.
